The Silkie or silky chicken, is a breed of chicken named for its unusual shape and fluffy plumage, which is said to touch is so soft and fine as silk.

This breed of chicken has several other unusual qualities, like a black skin (of course is not because their feathers cover it), another peculiarity is that the earlobes are blue (where is the skin color? !!) And five fingers on each leg, while most chickens have only four.
Given its peculiar anatomy, often exhibited in poultry shows, showing the different colors or styles.

Besides its distinctive physical characteristics, Silkies are known for their calm, friendly temperament. It is the bird more docile of all poultry and could be considered as a good pet. Chickens are also exceptionally broody (lay many eggs) are good mothers. It lays about three eggs a week, and is used as hen eggs encuba other breeds of other species of bird.

Usually a bit smaller than those found in other continents. Sure, I did not say that their place of origin, although it is a bit uncertain, seems to be East Asia. And Marco Polo spoke of a hairy hen and China called something like the "chicken floss."

Food is similar to that of other poultry, omnivorous that gleaning their food scraping the ground with their legs 5 finger.

Because here they eat the chickens, in East Asia, also eat the Silkies. But it is noteworthy that their meat, skin and even his bones have a dark hue, something that we would be really strange to us.

Salmon Shark

We know that the shark is a perfect killing machine. Its body has changed little in thousands of years because its design is virtually unbeatable. But we could say that the ability to kill could be improved if it were a warm-blooded fish, thus increasing muscle capacity, and decreasing your reaction time.

To nature, evolution, or whatever you want to call it, has already created a shark so called  salmon shark or Lamna ditropis. This still being a fish, is warm-blooded, maintaining a temperature of between 21 º.

I personally reminds me of a big tuna. It has a compact, strong body, pointed snout and flat, with large eyes and a large mouth full of sharp teeth. It is dark gray on the back and whitish belly. On the side is pinkish characteristic traits that make it and have earned it the name of Salmon Shark.

They can measure over 3 meters (9 ft.), and some witnesses say they have seen specimens of up to 4.5 meters (15 ft.) and 550 kg (1220 lb).

Dispatched by both Eastern North Pacific and Western. And a funny thing happens here that experts have not yet been able to explain. In the eastern regions are the females who maintain control over groups of sharks, however, in the western regions, the male domination is almost copies.

Turtle Flog

If juntáramos a frog and a turtle, it is safer to leave an animal like this.

In fact, it is known as the turtle frog (Myobatrachus gouldii) since, as seen in the photo, the body shape is similar to a turtle shell and head if also resembles the turtle.
Not only the shape of your body we can remind a frog, also their behavior. Being a frog that lives in the sandy area of Western Australia, their limbs have been strengthened. They are more robust and allow you to walk through the land like a turtle. Also, when laying eggs, do not put in the water like most frogs, it makes a hole and bury their offspring ... like turtles ... and what escava hole with their hind legs ... as unlike other frogs tortugasy better adapted to land.

This little frog-turtle about 4 cm ( in) , feeds on insects, ants and termites. That, thanks to its powerful legs and gets dig into termite mounds.

Well, this animal was found recently in Honduras, and experts do not know how this turtle that lived only in Australia believed, was discovered thousands of miles and a continent away.

The suicide of lemmings.

Lemmings is called to tiny rodents, furry, chubby and funny. They live in almost the entire northern hemisphere. They feed on roots, herbs and fruits and also some small animal such as worms and other small insects. Like other rodents, have a high reproductive rate. This is usually a plus for those predators that feed on estoss: foxes, birds of prey number, weasels, ferrets, lynx, wolves, etc ... It is true that with 15 cm long, not a prey to feed a wolf, but many lemmings they can remove the hunger of a big predator. Still, even having dozens of potential predators occur lemimings demographic explosion that forces them to move to other places in search of food.

These animals do not hibernate and when it snows, move also under snow looking for food. A food that may have been stored in previous days.

But the highlight of the lemmings is that they attributed the act collectively commit suicide every so often, in fact, until it became a game in which they had to keep the lemmings commit suicide. There are other animals that naturally commit mass suicide, for example those whales that knowing they have the possibility of becoming stranded on the beach, go to this until they are in the sand and die. But the case of the Lemmings, seems belied by experts which ensures that an error trying.

Personally, I find it funny that you say this, because briefly researching online, I discovered two different videos where you see hundreds of lemmings jumping off a cliff. Anyway, I put the videos and see what do you think. Is it true that lemmings commit suicide? Is the uncontrolled migration? You think you will die if they continue with this practice? ....

The Yoda Bat.

Bats never noted for their beauty or attractiveness, never ... In fact, if you say someone who has a face like a bat he will interpret it as a compliment. And the bat we're going to see now is no exception, is of course, very ugly, very very ugly .... The Yoda bat. A name that refers to the Master Yoda of Star Wars.

This "funny" animalete was discovered in 2009 in Papua New Guinea, an island north of Australia. Although this bat is ugly, we do not have to scare if we are to face with one of these. In fact, it is harmless to us, because it feeds on fruits. It is a fruitful and scatters the seeds of the fruits they eat throughout the tropical forest, has an important role in the ecosystem in which it lives.

Like other bats, master yoda is also mammal. When stretching its wings exceed five feet in length, but usually does not weigh more than 1 kg.

Little else is known of this animal: neither the number of copies, habits, predators, etc ... the area in which it was found is difficult to access and not been able to study everything you wanted. Other information we can extract their images: pipelines nose, wings and ears points a yellowish color and eyes positioned on the front providing a perfect stereoscopic vision to fly among the branches of the forest and control the distances of the objects.

Find this species should serve us as a warning signal that in this broken world there are many wonders to discover. That ambition, carelessness and selfishness of our species into account the wild, there are undiscovered species before making the world a great breeding ground where we can not wonder at discovering new species .... as yoda bat.

Black rhinoceros or hook-lipped rhinoceros.

What would you do if walking through the park you suddenly find one of the largest animals on Earth, it observed you?

As well, are various options:

a) act as if you have not seen and still waiting for the rhino strolling act like you.
b) running away and screaming: Help, save me!!
c) use of animal psychology and go without fear and give it a hug.

Well, even if you're confused, I'll tell you the three answers are good. The black rhinoceros, though an animal with a formidable horn and incredible strength, is classified as one of the more docile animals of Africa. In fact, if you become familiar with it, you can even feed him by hand.

Many tourists who find these animals in the wild, and can approach and even touch them and take a picture. Do you think you could do with an elephant? Or a hippo? .... I assure you not.

The black rhino is a bit smaller than its brother the white rhino. Its weight rarely exceeds 1500 kg (3300 lb), height is 1.6 meters (6 ft) to the cross and long reach to 3.5 meters (15 ft). Its color is a dark gray and then one of their names. The other name by which we know is "hooked-lipped rhinoceros". This is because, unlike the white rhino, which has the upper lip very broad and straight, the black rhino has it finished in peak form. This will help to eat little bushes and tall trees. But lip white rhino is more to pasture ... as cows do.

Currently, the black rhino is in danger of extinction. During the '60s, was massacred by the bastards ... gentlemen who hunted them to boast a beautiful trophy animal. In addition, its horn is coveted by oriental medicine and benefits attributed to certain properties in order. By luck and hard work, gradually the number of individuals increases and 4500, increased to 5,000 in the last census.

Army ants... the marabunta.

Somewhere in the vast West Africa, we find a dangerous ant species, invasive and jackets. Tiny superpredator able to hunt animals much larger than themselves, their greed and their numbers are your best weapons. The name are army ant or legionary ant or marabunta.

In the hunt for their prey moving such as fast army. Primarily come first workers and a few first soldier ants. They arrive at an area and begin to work to build a nest, and building underground the terrain characteristics. When part of the anthill built, start the hunting, the search for food. Right now divide and hunt any animal that is near. They are able to hunt insects bigger than them, but they have also been seen hunting small mammals including mice and has even been documented to have been able to attack and hunt chickens when they were in cages.

Once the clean area of potential nest predators and with almost built, start the transfer from the old nest. (Impressive organizational capacity) Queen, all worker ants and ant larvae and, now, all the soldiers prepared to prevent any possible attack, begin to move into their new nest. Moving home can last up to three days, and if we can lift up to 25 kg to work, they lift up to 300 kg (in proportion) to work building the nest or carrying larvae.

In the new ant they will stay for about a month. When the area is not enough food will change. Meanwhile, any animal that falls into the area of action Siafu ants will die.

Blanket octopus

Receive the scientific name Tremoctopus and commonly known as Blanket octopus. At this name, the first thing we are going through your head is that it is the result of crossing an octopus and a manta ray ...

But really, this octopus does not have anything to do with the manta ray ... It has a kind of blanket, or layer used efficiently to survive. First, this rare octopus, not run away from potential predators by releasing a jet of ink to confuse, but opens and displays the layer. So get a larger appearance, puzzling and avoiding predators attack.
But not only that, when such a shark bite dares blanket octopus layer, this layer is release and so useful that can escape its biting entertains hunter.

The size of this strange animalete is 2 meters for females. But males are smaller, insignificant. Moreover, we have seen that octopuses males when mating tentacle emerge where sperm stay, and soon afterwards die.

But its survival skills do not end there. When it is smaller, these octopus no feature layer. To protect and defend themselves from predators, small octopuses hiding among the tentacles of the Portuguese frigate (a curious poisonous jellyfish). When it are small octopuses are immune to the venom of this jellyfish.

Sword-billed Hummingbird.

In every ecosystem there are different relationships between living creatures, from bacteria to the top predator that sits on top of the trophic chain. When, for whatever reason, a species is extirpated, endangered the interaction of all individuals in the ecosystem.

But not all species are just as essential, and although all have a role, there are some that are more importances others. The case of Sword-billed Hummingbird is a clear example of a species must.

The main feature of Sword-billed hummingbird (Ensifera ensifera) is that it has the longer beak, in which all the birds in the world, in relation to the body. The peak measured the same as the length of the body that has such a long beak, it is no casuality.

As we know, generally hummingbirds feed on a product superenergy, the nectar of flowers. They have to enter the peak inside the flower for be done with the nectar, while the pollen of flowers were deposited on their heads to when a new flower pollinate.

Well, some flowers have been very demanding of their pollinators, needed a pollinator (a hummingbird in this case), to eat the nectar while pollen is impregnated. The easiest way was to extend the floral pendulum: if the hummingbird enters the head from inside the flower to get the nectar, their pollen impregnate feathers, enter the peak itself, is more difficult to impregnate. As they were stretching peaks hummingbirds also lengthened the pendulums of flowers. This, over the centuries, caused very long peaks as the sword-billed hummingbird and floral tubes also very long.

These specialized flowers, we can find Passiflora Datura or Passiflora mixta. These are elongated flowering plants so that only the Sword-billed Hummingbird can ponilizar the fact, it is believed that if the Sword-billed Hummingbird disappeared, also these plants poof and disappear ... specialization may be the cause of its demise. Although thankfully, we are certain that the Sword-billed Hummingbird is not endangered .... Some plants chose well to its pollinator.

Saiga antelope or Saiga tatarica.

This animal, a little disproportionate, is the protagonist of one of the largest migrations that occur throughout the animal world. A migration comparable to that produced by millions of wildebeest and zebras in central Africa.

Is an animal the size of a sheep, a herbivore that feeds on plants harder, poor and stale to be found in the Russian steppe. About 50 kg in weight, 70 cm in height and more than 1 meter long. The most notable feature is his nose: broad, long and mobile, similar to tapirs. The nose is a perfect adaptation to climate. In winter heats the air before it is introduced into the lungs. However, in summer, is able to filter and retain windblown dust from the steppes. Another adaptation to cold is its coat, tan and short in summer, but long, thick and white in winter. A survivor of the last glaciation.

Among their predators are wolves, foxes, birds of prey and large prey.

The last migration are being more and more reduced, are currently believed to not more than 30,000 individuals. Animals passing through areas that create the effect funnel with a width less than 5 km. Bridges that connect two areas not yet occupied by man.

Apart from the destruction of their habitat, this animal is being hunted out of control to get their horns. Horns are an ingredient that has a certain value in traditional Chinese medicine, already the horns are replacing other ingredient even more scarce, rhino horn.

He is currently in critical danger of extinction.

Pygmy tarsier.

After viewing the Long-eared Jerboa, an animal that awakens in us a tender feeling, I decided to go with another animal just as endearing and tender that the Jerboa: Pygmy tarsier.

This small animal as big eyes, was believed extinct for years, relieving the superstitious inhabitants of Sulawesi. Indonesians in this zone they had no problem getting rid of them, hunt them and kill them because the figure of a tarsier called forth from them prejudices and superstitions of an animal identified with "animal unlucky". Extinct for 80 years, suddenly appeared while a villager a plague of rats exterminated in the village fences. Scientists discovered by surprise that Pygmies had not disappeared, the little animal died, there was a rat amorphous, it the extinct tarsier. This promoted the search for new specimens, which were found and were able to study and help them survive until new born individuals.

Currently this animal is in danger of extinction, but it seems that slowly, and through the efforts of various institutions, their numbers are increasing.

Besides its size (10 cm (4 in) + furry tail and less than 60 g weight (2 ounce)), the Pygmy tarsier has characteristics that make it unique. Here are the most curious:
1 - The pygmy tarsier, has a communication system similar to that of other tarsiers, but its voice is so acute that we can not hear. It communicates with frequencies of 90 khz. We can not hear sounds with frequencies higher than 20 kHz. In fact, experts thought it was dumb until they discovered this.
2 - Another unique feature of this little animal, is its diet. It is the only primate that has a carnivorous diet extricta. Although they look seem to eat little fruit and grass, the tarsier is a fearless hunter, is insectivorous, but some claim it is able to hunt birds and small reptiles clueless.

3 - Is the animal with the largest eyes in relation to its weight and size. And these huge eyes, help you move between the dark because they are nocturnal.

Long-eared Jerboa.

Have you ever seen an animal with a face so candid? Surely not. Well, this little rodent is the  Long-eared Jerboa (sesudo name) or Euchoreutes naso.

This small, nocturnal creature with pig nose and ears of Dumbo, lives, and with difficulty, in the inhospitable Gobi Desert in Mongolia. A desert known for sudden changes of temperature extremes. Well, in this poor habitat live Long-eared Jerboa.

Their long ears are the perfect tool to dilute body heat by the fine blood vessels that run through. Jerbo is  higher animal ears worldwide, proportionally speaking, of course. Its body is not larger than 3,5 in (9 cm) in length, minus the tail, then his ears are 2,3 in (6 cm). It is as if we had ears until we reach our ass (what we would hear everything).

Another feature of this small rodent and insect hunter, are its legs. Their legs are long and strong (always speaking in proportion) enable you to "large" jumps to escape their natural depredores.

Now, I feel myself dramatic and serious, but sometimes there is no alternative. This little animal is in real danger of extinction. Nocturnal, it is a strange animal, and by small zoos breeding projects, there is little hope to avoid their disappearance.

I have a video that was made by the Zoological Society of London with the intention to denounce the elimination of this beautiful little animal: The first video eared jerboa.

Mantis shrimp or stomatopods

Any boxer would like to have the "direct hit" of this small crustacean. A marine animal, if it were larger, it would be the best superhero who ever lived.

They are called mantis, for its resemblance, but his front legs end with some strong clubs that are able to club with much power to its opponents, dams or larger predators. You can give as strong blows that break shells, and inflict mortal wounds larger fish or octopus insightful.

But do not think that is a simple stroke. It is a blow so powerful that generates as much energy to produce its own light. The speed produces a strong friction with water, generates electricity and heat that boils water and produces light and sound similar to waves of energy that we have seen of young (and not so young) in manga cartoons "Dragon Ball. "

Okay, I have exaggerated. Not so fantastic, but if it is true that produces light by strong friction with the water. It is true that boils the water with a hit and also if the coup fails, is able to bring down his victim with his blast.
The mantis shrimp is known to the submariners for their aggressiveness. If you ever catch them, divers are careful to take them to prevent them breaking a finger with a quick hit.

Experts have calculated that the speed reaches the mantis shrimp´s stick is 23 m / s, the same as a bullet.

The other superpower of our superhero, is vision. The shrimp can move independently of each eye (eg Chameleons) and are able to capture the infrared and ultraviolet. They are also capable of detecting four types of linear polarization and circular polarization two. And also, each eye has a stereoscopic view independently. They are the most complex eyes in the animal kingdom. Biologists do not yet know very well the precise role of this system, but felt it had sexual overtones and player. It is speculated to be a secret communication channel.

Hairy Frog.Trichobatrachus robustus.

Experts have named this frog with a curious name, "Hairy frog". That's rare to see these two together, hair in an amphibian skin. Possibly the only frog that has hair, but also the only amphibian in the world, so it makes an animal very peculiar.

But this name has trick: the hair is really skin. Apparently, it seems hair are really thin skin that help to breathe. As almost all amphibians, the hairy frog breathes by small lungs and through the skin. Well, thanks to these hairs skin, fine capillaries are able to pick up a needed oxygen.

But the frog's hair is not the only peculiarity of this animal ... has many more, eg see two characteristics that make this a frog amphibian particular:

1 °. It is an active hunter, and its prey can find slugs, millipedes, spiders, beetles and grasshoppers. And it has teeth. Let me repeat, is a frog with teeth, W-I-T-H-T-E-E-T-H ... in fact, tadpoles are born with teeth. You imagine a frog with teeth? Can be? Yes :

2 °. The second characteristic is that it has a secret weapon (now will cease to be secret) as it can draw on both to hunt and to defend. When the hairy frog feels threatened, intentionally breaking the bones of the fingers of his legs, which pierce the skin and overlook looking like claws. Bone is a hairy frog with retractable claws and teeth ... is rare, rare.

Well, the hairy frog is native to central Africa is robust and is about 11 cm, and it is not considered endangered

Echidnas or spiny ansteater. Evolutionary experiment.

This animal is called echidna or spiny ansteater, and has a characteristic that is shared only by another animal, the platypus. Like this, the echidna is the only mammal born from an egg ... I find it strange?
I explain briefly:

The earliest forms of childbearing occurred in prehistoric ocean water. The fish gave birth to many small fish of the sea and of those, many were devoured. To avoid this, the evolution devised some different formulations of childbearing: some fish were hidden in the mouth of the mother, others sought shelter in ... for example anemones ... and other small fish were kept in capsules viscous. The last way to protect the lineage separated was evolved over time in typical eggs of reptiles.

The capsules were no longer viscous but tough. Eggs that were getting the fetus evolve and grow into predators, hunters and adults, but with a smaller size. When mammals appeared, how to give birth to offspring changed. The egg was fertilized in the mother and, even without having the capabilities of an adult, was birthed. Of course had to be cared for and fed by the mother, trying to ensure that offspring born (usually) helpless.

Well, in this evolutionary path of procreation, which seems normal that any mammal born from the mother and then her nursing care and to become more, not an egg as birds or reptiles. That is because the echidna evolutionary peculiarity: the echidna is born from an egg, therefore, how they procreate is not like reptiles but not like that of mammals.

But the way to incubate the egg is not such as birds or reptiles. The echidna lays an egg and it's in a cavity of the body to the coat. This allows you to navigate and provide warmth and protection while ... a good idea talking about survival. Then yes, the small born and would do what any mammal: nursing.

Musk deer.

If we see skull of this animal, one can think that belongs to a predator of large tusks. Remember the saber-toothed tiger. But really it isn´t a carnivorous hunter, not a key animal in the trachea fangs of its prey, does not infringe fatal bites. This skull is that of a peaceful vegetarian: musk deer.

In contrast to other deer, the stags antlers do not grow, but two huge tusks that give it the appearance of deer-vampire (a term invented by me). Well, these tusks grow throughout his life and apparently, its function is the same as that of other deer antlers ... size does matter.

Another feature of the musk deer is that unlike other deer, he lives as a couple.

There are several species and they think they are smarter than other musk deer do not.

Finally, perhaps the most significant trait. We note that the name given to this deer is due to their body scent of musk. A strong sweet smell, which contains pheromones and is used in some perfumes. In fact, there is a very nice story about this feature:

When the deer began to feed himself, he noticed the strong scent of musk. He wondered, perplexed, where he came fresh and enveloping perfume.

Began to investigate its source everywhere, it was impossible to escape him, but so was to know its origin. The animal became more and more curious. No truce, was still looking for the source of the smell so intense. He sought constantly, day and night, the victim of an obsession that did nothing but increase. So the years passed. Hart lived moments of great weakness, of unspeakable anguish, deep grief. did not get your search results.

Fifteenth century engraving

Musk deer aged and died. "I never knew that intoxicating perfume came from himself."

This musk-containing glands in the snout. But there is also another ingredient that it produces and which also becomes a target for hunters. It is through the flesh, not by the need to eat. It is hunted by a glandular substance is used as "drug" for athletes. Is prohibited and is considered doping.

Thanks to its smell, its doping substance, in fewer habitat (if I have not said is just east of Asia), its conservation is threatened.

The beauty of the Marabou

Do you know which is the ugliest bird in the world?

Well, apparently, the vast majority of ornithologists the world consider the Marabou ugliest bird in the world. The Marabou Stork (Leptoptilos crumeniferus) is a scavenger bird found in the savannah and marshes pecking African and what you can with the vultures and carrion orejeros of dead animals. Also hunts small mammals and birds, including some large birds such as flamingos.

This bird is large, measuring 1.5 meters in height and when you open the wings reaches 2.5 meters. It has a "beak" great, perhaps weak, but is long and wide. Weighs up to 6 kg and lives about 15 years. And like vultures, his head bare.

Since it is considered the ugliest bird in the world, so let's see, some pretty pictures I found.

The Sandfish

Possibly the most amazing lizards now exist on Earth. A lizard of just 10 cm long (some specimens reaching 20 cm) and a truly curious peculiarity: anything under the sand.

The name given is "Sandfish", and that is, as we said, nothing in the sand, not water. The Scincus scincus (is scientific name) slides across the sand of the Sahara Desert, which is the finest sand in any other desert in the world.

It has a long snout wedge that opens the sand with a countersunk lower jaw. A long, tapered body covered with smooth, bright and tight scales that favor reduced friction with the sand particles.
Their legs are short and stout, with long and flat feet that hides when immersed in the dunes and its tail is short, tapering to a fine point. Their eyes and nostrils are very small.

But apart from his physical appearance that catches your attention is the ease with which it moves through the inside of the arena. Rather than for any other animal would be impossible or by working hard (in the case that could swim through the sand) and sand the fish as if they really get it traveling through water. Had hitherto been a mystery, but technological advances show us how this curious animal is able to swim in the sand:

Let us first see how it does.

Now let's see how he does it but X-ray

Polar bear vs grizzly.

Overall, I think that the animals themselves are fascinating enough to have to resort to fighting among themselves to attract attention.

But when I saw the video I was surprised. The polar bear is an apex predator and is billed as the largest land predator. They can weigh 1550 lb and measure 8,5 fts long. With these measures, I always thought that the polar bear could make any other predator on. But ... apparently yes. His cousin the grizzly famosisísimo. The latter is shorter (8,2 fts) and weighs slightly less (up to 1450 lb) than the polar bear. Although the Grizzly is more fierce, strong and brave. Otherwise, watch the video.
